I studied economics, got a job in finance, I worked my way up to a trading desk and I was able to start trading middle markets in 2008-2009 and the financial markets obviously were in a weird spot during those times and a lot of companies are restructuring.

I didn't have any intention in getting my real estate license at that time, but a good friend of mine, Mike Hearn, who's done a really good job adjoining the market to us said to get my real estate license. I just fell in love with the business, and also met my now wife, Danielle โ€˜Redโ€™ Drasher, hit it off immediately and started building this business together.

๐–๐ก๐š๐ญโ€™๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ฌ๐จ๐ง ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐๐ž๐œ๐ข๐๐ž๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ก๐จ๐ง๐ž ๐ข๐ง ๐จ๐ง ๐‡๐จ๐›๐จ๐ค๐ž๐ง?

We realized early on this business that there were really two ways to go about building a long-term, sustainable business.

One way was getting dialed in on cold calling, cold prospecting, and working new leads, and the other way was to try to build this niche of a business where you could be seen as an authority figure in that market.

๐‡๐จ๐ฐ ๐๐ข๐ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ซ๐ญ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐›๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ข๐ง๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ?

To get started, it was about commitment. It was about time on task, and it was about keeping your head down, worrying about the actions and not the results upfront. Don't quit. The first thing you have to do is not quit.

Once you know what you're gonna do, focus on your actions, and not on the results. Another thing is, if you wanna have longevity, is to be ready for the difficult times.

It was just us getting involved in the community. We make friends, build relationships, get to new groups, and get to new organizations.

We are proactively putting content and connecting with relationships on social media and really systemizing a lot of that, getting involved in different things, and just building relationships.

It's also a matter of finding your strength - open houses, cold calling, door knocking, and then leaning into it in a proactive purposeful way.

There's two main things that pop up that are like the cornerstones of any kind of content campaign for a community in my mind.

What is a new hot restaurant?

Who's the restaurant that's been here for years that everyone should know about?

Regardless if you're going after a dense market or if you're really looking to just expand any kind of real estate practice and any like either broader market, you have to be organic.

๐–๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ฐ๐จ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐ญ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐š ๐ง๐ž๐ฐ ๐š๐ ๐ž๐ง๐ญ, ๐จ๐ซ ๐š๐ง ๐ž๐ฑ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž๐ ๐š๐ ๐ž๐ง๐ญ?

Slow down. It's one thing at a time. One thing implemented, one thing put in place and they compound day after day, week after week, quarter after quarter, and know where you wanna go.

Know the next few things you need to do but don't be obsessed with the things that need to be happening a year or two from now. Don't look at someone who's 10 years in the business and be stressed out and overwhelmed that you're never gonna get there.


Know where you wanna go, but then stay consistent. Let the work that you're doing compound, and focus on your actions and not the results.

Know that this thing is a journey.
