What do all these things have in common for our guest?

They all are where training for Triathlons and  building a real estate team meet.

Lindsay Stevens shares her 5 biggest lessons learned from training for triathlons that helped her and her husband Bruce scale an amazing real estate team to 26 rock star members and completely dominate the New Paltz New York Market!

Lindsay and I met a few months back we were at a real estate seminar in Dallas we were both at the bar, and Bruce was with her and I looked over and I said those guys looked like two people who were just digesting 10 hours worth of content trying to relax with the martini as I was, and we just started chatting realized we're both husband and wife teams realized we had a lot of similarities in the way that our lives are and how we run our businesses.

Now, let's get into five lessons  Lindsay learned from triathlon or being an athlete for all the years that helped her and Bruce build their business.

WHY?

Why are we doing what we are doing?

Why do we do what we do?

In sports it's why she commits to doing things that are super scary and hard. She commits to her why and goes back to her mantra, 'just be a little bit better every day'. She challenges herself and puts herself in situations that scare her, and the reason in her business is to help people become leaders, achieve things they want to achieve even the little things, and just be a better version of herself everyday.

It's not always the earth shattering not changing the game but how deep can you take your why.

Why are we in business? Is it to make money? Is it to help clients? Is it to provide a lifestyle? Where does that really go to? How do you keep that in your mind every day? How do you make sure you remember why? You must be strong enough to write it down and read it every day.

COMMIT.

Set a goal and commit. If you're thinking about doing something in your personal life just do it, put it on your calendar, pay the money and and schedule it. Once you schedule it, it's real, and that's exactly what she did with the current she's joining, she just got right in!

Commit to the business, to your goals, to what you want to do, to the amount of money you're going to make,   commit to the number you want to achieve, do the steps you need to do to get there because until you commit, it's just an idea.

TRAIN.

We can't just wake up and decide, "I want to get a real estate license and sell 100 houses." People have this idea that they're going to get into the real estate business and they're going to just be an overnight millionaire and sell lots of houses and drive Rolls Royce and be a baller and it's not the case. If you're not putting the time in, no matter what it is, may it be in real estate or in anything, you're not gonna succeed. It just is the way it is. We have to train everyday.

It goes back to the idea that anybody can get a real estate license and make money, and this is the only industry you can make NFL money, but are you putting in NFL effort? Are you role playing? Are you showing up? Are you practicing scripts, and doing the listing presentations? How much training are you doing for the game?

People don't realize how important training is in real estate, and a lot of what we do is very cliche and simple but it's what will separate you from your competition, always. Just training and training and being so fiercely committed to the outcome.

PATIENCE.

Take one mile at a time, one bike ride at a time, one day at a time.

Everything takes time and we're not aware of that with ourselves and we're not kind enough to ourselves to understand that anything worth it truly does, it takes time. We have to be patient with our team, our agents, and with ourselves.

We need to be really patient up front, it's like that old clichรฉ that it

takes so much energy and hard work to get a plane off the ground and then once it's in the air, it uses five percent of the energy that it took for takeoff. There's a lot of patience to have a lot of results.

Lindsay mentioned that just like training for a triathlon, we will struggle to get three miles without stopping for a break, so if you're not a runner by any means it's gonna take a lot of work to probably get to  four or five miles, and then maybe after that, your body starts to get in the right shape and your your muscles and joints will start to adjust properly to go further than your initial big move, just like in real estate.

In your first year, it's going to be a grind like you are working your butt off for five or ten transactions, and then next year all of a sudden, five or ten transactions show up automatically and you're working your butt off for 20.

Where we are today is not anywhere near where we want to go, and there is no finish line.

PEOPLE.

Surround yourself with the right people, those that are going to motivate you, inspire you, and push you to be better.

Every problem you have is people. Whether it's recruiting, you can fix any problem in real estate by recruiting new talent or recruiting a transaction coordinator or an ISA or a videographer.

You're the average of the five people you surround yourself with, and that goes for business and for physical fitness. In the past, I spent time with people who were always tired and not healthy and just like dragging. All of a sudden I woke up and asked, "How did I get like this?" Then I reframed, got around people with different priorities, and all of a sudden just without trying you become a different person.

Get away from the people who make excuses, that are negative, always don't show up, and don't do what they need to do, they will bring you down, and they'll destroy you.

Committing is showing up. Even if you don't want to, if you're tired, if you don't know what to do, if you're confused, if you don't have the right direction, just show up. Get to the computer, get to the bike, get to the office, get to where the place is, and things will start happening.
